Al-Quran competition begins

To drive the process of expanding and disseminating Al-Quran and its teachings among MABIMS member countries and to further strengthen integration among MABIMS member countries, particularly in the field of Al-Quran, the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA), through the MABIMS Centre for Al-Quran Studies and Dissemination, is organising an Al-Quran Memorisation and its Understanding Competition for MABIMS member countries.

Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman attended the two-day event that began yesterday at the International Conference Centre, Berakas.

Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan, Malaysian High Commissioner-Designate to Brunei Darussalam Datuk Mohd Aini Atan, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Haji Mohammad Rosli bin Haji Ibrahim; Acting Singapore High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Shawn Grosse and a representative of the Indonesian Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam were also present. Other attendees included senior officials from MoRA and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah by An-Na’im Mosque Affairs Officer Muhammad Saifullah bin Rosli, followed by welcoming remarks from MoRA’s Head of Public Relations, International and MABIMS Division Haji Mohd Albi bin Haji Ibrahim as the Joint Chairman of the Competition Committee.

He stated that MABIMS is a robust platform for cooperation, particularly in delivering religious services within the MABIMS region, namely Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Highlighting the achievements of each MABIMS member country, all of which have achieved success in the competition since its inception in 2009, he asserted that this reflects the effectiveness of the Islamic education system in each nation.

On the first day of the competition, four participants, each representing the host country Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore, performed their memorisations for the category of memorising 10 Juzuk Al-Quran and understanding Surah At-Taubah. – Lyna Mohamad
